And What Now?

NOUVELLE OPTION: Version française

My friends, my loved ones,

You will not believe the adventures and misadventures I have lived this past month. It all started on May 22nd, as you know. Although the move itself went down very well, the arrival at the Airbnb was another story…

The location was perfect, close to school, restaurants, the apartment itself was very nice, sunny, big, but on arrival, two very good-looking Russians started demolishing the entrance and staircase leading to the second floor where the apartment in question was located. It is important that I define “demolishing”: one of the workmen was, crowbar in hand, ripping out the tiles covering the walls and those covering each stair of the long staircase. The second, perched on his ladder in the narrow main hallway, facing the front door of the building, was ripping out the ceiling. A cloud of dust was covering us. I say us, as Josée, my childhood friend, was with me to witness the catastrophe. Furthermore, the good-looking Russians informed us that they only worked every day from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. and that they needed to take the private parking space dedicated to me. I saw the parking space at the back of the building and to reach the spiral staircase giving access to the apartment, you had to walk on a bed of gutted garbage bags, building materials and questionable matter which I did not see myself walk through with my fuck-me shoes. I don’t think so Tim!

Everything was going great!

Josée helped me bring my luggage to this infernal environment as exhaustion took over my body. The problem would need to be solved tomorrow. All we wanted was cross the street and drink sake, in abundance! The restaurant was incredible. We ate all kinds of sushi and original new dishes. The sake made us happy and gave me the courage to enter the gates of hell!

The next day, I sent an e-mail to the host letting him know the reasons for the cancellation.

1.     No access to Internet as promised;
2.     No access to the private parking space as promised;
3.     The noise and shit caused by the renovation unacceptable especially as I asked for a quiet place;
4.     The back lock nonfunctional;
5.     Back access full of garbage;
6.     No keys for all the locks;
7.     Noise beside the bedroom caused by the motor of the air distributor that prevents me from sleeping;
8.     Light bulbs missing in the bedroom, the bathroom, over the oven and in the office lamp.

Josée came back the next evening to put my luggage back into my car. She then generously invited me to stay at her place for three weeks and I was relieved. Thanks a million sweetie! I was also fully reimbursed by Airbnb.

June 15th, my furniture came out of storage to finally find itself in the right place. Here is a preview of my new home.

One week later, I find myself at Notre-Dame-du-Portage where I can take a break from my great adventures!

I will be here until August and I will then be able to properly settle in my new place and finally send out rightfully expected invitations!

Thank you for keeping me company during these crazy times, these being particularly memorable and worthy of a blog of their own!

Talk to you soon my friends, my loved ones,

Diane
